The trade union representatives of the Steel Sector Social Dialogue Committee express their full solidarity with ArcelorMittal workers across Europe following the company’s latest announcement of massive offshoring of support functions.

These decisions are unacceptable and industrially senseless. ArcelorMittal already benefits from European support: the European Steel and Metals Action Plan, strengthened EU trade defence measures now moving through the European Parliament, and significant national and EU public funding. Yet the company still cuts jobs and presents no credible investment plan for decarbonising its European sites. As stated by the European Works Council: “Europe protects the market, ArcelorMittal cuts jobs.”

This contradiction cannot stand. These offshoring plans threaten 5,600 direct jobs in 20 countries and thousands more indirectly, undermining operational continuity, cybersecurity, key skills, and Europe’s industrial resilience.

Europe must react.

We reaffirm: "ArcelorMittal’s European workers are not a cost to cut but a wealth to defend. They are the foundation of European industrial performance."

We stand united with them.
