04 February 2013 Despite the economic crisis, future key sectors such as the metal industries grew faster than the average for industry or manufacturing as a whole. The metal sectors are in a very strong position within industry. While real production in the intermediate and consumer goods sectors has shrunk considerably since 2005, the decline of production in the metal industries during the crisis could be more than compensated up to now. Nevertheless, the level of employment could not be maintained due to the strong increase in productivity and more than 1.2 million metalworkers have lost their jobs. [Read more]
